In short: No, it is not necessary for the sensor to work to have the patch on. We do, however, recommend using the patch as an extra layer of protection to ensure the sensor stays put and does not fall off accidentally. It is advised not to try and remove the patch before the end of the 14 days as the sensor might peel off and become dislocated.
